What's idiotic is the assumption that I think there are not plenty of loving Christian fathers out there. Many (most) of the Christians on this site are loving people (Imran, JM, Nikolai, etc) and I recognize that.

The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben.

Jesus christ. The "progressive left" refers to a fairly rigid set of beliefs, and commenting on what those beliefs actually are is totally valid. "Christian" is everything from mormon to episcopalian, and commenting on "christian" is meaningless generalization.
