If the vast majority of all pregnancies that end prematurely do so because of -- when you get right down to it -- imperfect medical science, wouldn't it make sense for pro-life people to campaign harder for reducing the odds of miscarriage than reducing the number of abortions?

That's certainly true. Lives should be saved when possible. But natural death is no excuse for violence. That guy who went on a killing spree in Colorado wasn't just hastening a natural phenomenon, he was taking lives.

If society can eliminate miscarriages through making certain decisions about what to research, then in the long run society can choose to get rid of miscarriages. Clearly people have made choices that have led to miscarriages that didn't have to happen. So it's a fallacy to claim society should write off miscarriages as involuntary and focus all resources on preventing abortions.

You are ignoring that the question isn't what their actions are, it's what their purpose should be given their professed values. (I don't agree that they should focus on miscarriages, but that's the basis of the question regardless of how you answer it.)

And they believe that abortion is wrong because it is murder. This is a crucial difference between abortion, which is always deliberate and miscarriage which is not.
