    Did you miss my point?

People who make ~30k a year or those who have a family who make ~40k a year can not afford healthcare.

    It is too expensive.

You should be asking why they can't afford healthcare insurance. Why is there no low-cost insurance option that covers rare but serious conditions like uterine tumors? A 34-year old woman should easily be able to get that kind of coverage at an affordable price, but such coverage doesn't exist in the American healthcare system. Obamacare will only make the problem worse.

Catastrophic insurance doesn't cover such things?

        (I'm genuinely asking here; I don't know)

          Yep.

They have it in the capitalist system of SA (I think).

But our healthcare costs, because of insurance, are also just too high. By a factor of 5 or more. Maybe by only a factor of 3-4 if you remove the education/law components.

No, I didn't miss that point. I'm not sure that it's even true, and if it is, obamacare does nothing to fix it.

Catastrophic health insurance in America isn't quite the same, due to the high deductible.

Now what does that remind me of.. Oh yeah, the same bull**** that was so common when the minimum wage was introduced! So many people insisted that it would mean all the low wage workers would be fired. This predicatably did not happen, because when low income people are healthy and paid a decent wage for their labours they put most of that money straight back into the economy.

Oh god. Not the minimum wage again. You still believe that the minimum wage is a good idea?

Yes I think the minimum wage is a good thing. Good thing you've never had to scrape by a single day in your life due to mummy and daddy's money, otherwise you would probably think so too.

The money that goes back into the economy doesn't necessarily go towards products made using minimum wage labor. In other words, a minimum wage could make it easier for skilled workers to get jobs but more difficult for unskilled workers to get jobs.

Used to be a perfectly acceptable alternative known as the HSA's wherein a year or so of pre tax contribution allowed one to save up in case high deductibles needed to be met by a catastrophic event. Those plans don't typically meet the new mandated insurance requirements.
