Probably because his songs have a melody, he just can't sing it correctly.

I don't know about Denmark, but in the States rap is actually fairly popular, albeit mainly in urban areas where its central theme ("**** tha po-lice") is popular.

He can play pretty well, though, and has done duets with people who can sing.

Not that different here - rap is the "bad" music played in the ghettos, but Al's video reminded me of the disco/pop origin of rap - not exactly something to be proud of .

Even disco had its high points. Rap's highest point was that at least one rapper, for a brief period of time, got to do J. Lo.

**** the police? What decade is this?! Holy crap are you prejudiced. Have you even heard a rap song post-NWA?

              Fairly popular?

Of the top 10 songs currently on the Billboard charts, #3, #5, #7, #8, and #9 are rap songs. Half of the top 10 songs in the country at this moment are rap songs. This is typical at any given week.

Fairly popular? More like dominant. No other genre has this command of popular music.

              Urban areas only? Clearly not.

"Sexy and I Know It" is a rap "song"? Rap is an abomination.

There's no such thing as a rap song, the greater part of the U.S. population is urban, and the damned "song" you just posted was an anti-cop screed.

It's anti-cop to note the existence of police brutality? Really?

No such thing as a rap song? So what is Billboard noting? How is 5/10 of the top-10 songs in the country being rap not dominating American music?

Well, that and the line I heard claiming there was no difference between cops and criminals, or some rubbish like that. Certainly it fed off of resentment of the police.

I was thinking of Blondie, but that song does have its goofy charms.
