Hate is the wrong word. It would more be like "that creepy nutjob aren't going to be within 100 meter of my child".
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

      • I don't know any american football player, I know Babe Ruth because I have seen him mentioned in movies.
I know some big basketball stars (Jordan, Johnson, Kobe, Rodman, Lebron) , Basketball is more of an international sport than american football or baseball.

        • Asher, where do you get all this stuff about Tebow? Yes, the virgin () QB is very religious and he's very open about his religion since it's a huge part of his life, being the son of missionaries and what not, but I have never heard of anything about Tebow being the judgmental bible-thumper you think he is. People start Tebowing in a prayer pose and it became an internet craze then his opponents started doing it to make fun of him... the media asked him if he was offended and if he thought they were mocking his religion and Tebow graciously said it didn't bother him and he can appreciate people having fun. Does that sound like the response of an in-your-face Ben type?

You're right that he is an all-American, squeaky-clean good old boy. It is one of the reasons why he is so popular. But I at least have never heard of any of the negative aspects of Christians coming out from his mouth or his behavior.

And I've been discussing Tebow at length in the NFL thread so I'm starting to get Tebowed out.

Did you not see his Superbowl ad?

                • Yes, being a figurehead for a bible-thumping evangelical group doesn't mean he's a judgmental bible thumper, right? Just that he is promoting them. A very good distinction that I'm glad you made, Alby.

He's actively involved in supporting a group that:
                  1) Advocates school prayer (well, Christian school prayer -- none of that gay muslim prayer ****)
                  2) Advocates corporate punishment for schools
                  3) Strongly opposes any and all gay rights, and still actively campaigns to revoke rights gays have and prevent further rights
                  4) Strongly opposes abortion
                  5) Wants to outlaw pornography
                  6) Wants to eliminate any and all forms of legalized gambling
                  7) Strongly opposes pre-marital sex
                  8) Ardently supports Intelligent Design

And Tebow himself has done what we've already discussed above (constantly publicly prays, constantly publicly thanks Jesus, writes bible versus under his eyes before games, stars in commercials pushing Christianity, etc.)

Considering all of these above, you are absolutely correct in that he is clearly not a "judgmental bible-thumper".

It's probably more correct to say he's more fond of shoving bibles down your throat and up your ass rather than thumping them.

Yes, I'd feel free every time I'm forced to do a Christian prayer in public school.

As for you wanting to outlaw pornography,

I see you're getting a jump on the typical Republican schtick -- publicly come out against something we know you do anyway.

No one forces you to pray. It only accommodates those who wish to.

Oops, was supposed to be a , my bad. It would be pretty stupid of me to support free speech wrt public prayer and oppose porn, yeah?

                              Is that so?

I was threatened with detention if I didn't recite with the rest of the class the "Pledge of Allegiance" every morning. Why would prayer be different, if the teacher leads it?

Consistency has never been the forte of Republicans.

The teachers aren't allowed to do that, you know. If they do, well, they're breaking the rules, not you. Many kids pray during moment of silence, btw. One of my best friends always pulled out a bible and read passages.
