I think that Spink is the only troll I remember changing tactics mid-stream - at some point he went into Racist Douchebag mode, and was thereafter responsible for half of the "black people have low IQs" threads (Caligastia being responsible for the other half), but his trolling was the hit-you-over-the-head variety. Pretending to worship the Bible as a deity? That's something a crazy person would think up, not a troll.

A paraphrase bible, Elok, is a bible that is easy to read for lay people, or even children and people who aren't sophistocated with language. The bible is translated by scholars to insure accuracy. But the translators remove metaphors and what not and replace them with literal and direct common language.. For example, the NIV (yes a paraphrase bible) says "Don't think that I come to bring peace, because I bring conflict." The transated word that Jesus used was actually "sword." He used a metaphor.
So I looked at all the paraphrase bibles and they are all very similar to the old KJV. "... the Word was God." So my question is if there is some complex meaning such as a metaphor or some secret knowledge as a second Word or a second God why isn't it spelled out for allof us morons in the paraphrase bibles?I drank beer. Why doesn't the paraphrase bible say "the Bible was God" if that's the message it intended to convey?
Is there any Bible translation, anywhere, that uses the word "Bible" instead of "Word" in that passage?Last edited by loinburger; November 3, 2011, 18:44.<p style="font-size:1024px">HTML is disabled in signatures </p>

That was a fast response. It says it took you 2 minutes to read what I said, think (giving you the benefit of the doubt, write what you wrote, and post.Last edited by Kidlicious; November 3, 2011, 18:49.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

I am not shocked that Kid seems to be a KJV only type. Btw, the so called "paraphrase" Bibles (or as people more educated know them as "dynamic translation" or "verse for verse" as opposed to "formal translation" or "word for word" - due to the difficulties in translating Koine Greek or Masoric Hebrew into English or any other Western European language sometimes a verse for verse is preferred because the exact words don't exist) cannot change the fact that there is no word in English that is akin to the Greek term logos.
And loin is correct - if they were paraphrasing, why not use the term Scripture if that was what was meant? Since dynamic translation likes to point out what was meant by a verse.
Interestingly enough, my NIV (one of 8 Bibles I have, including the NRSV, NET, NAB, and KJV) has a footnote in John 1:1 which refers me to Revelations 19:13. Rev 19:11-16 says
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”a He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
king of kings and lord of lords.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

Thank you for pointing out that I am quick-witted, but doing so doesn't really help to support your argument<p style="font-size:1024px">HTML is disabled in signatures </p>

I know you have eight bibles Imran. You've said that atleast once before. What do you mean by telling us that?
Do you take everything in the Book of Revelation literally? Jesus is the Word of God. Thanx for that!I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?
