Kid, did you read Father Stephen's blog entry, posted by Imran in this thread a while back?
There is a fundamentalist anxiety that I hold in great sympathy. My sympathy is driven by the fact that I lived for many years under the burden of that very anxiety. It is the hidden fear that poss…
It gives a pretty good overview of the Orthodox perspective on the matter. If you don't get what he's getting at, I don't know who else to go to. Maybe Imran will, though, he's generally more attuned to the Christian blogosphere.

The Bible explicitly says that it is a record of events. And you're worshiping it as a deity. If you can't recognize how fundamentally broken this is then there's no hope for you.
It's worth noting that you are probably the only person on the planet who is worshiping the Bible as a deity. Not a single translator translated "logos" as "Bible" or "Scripture," because that would be a horribly incorrect translation. Not a single minister preaches that the Bible is supposed to be worshiped as a deity. Not a single member of the early church worshiped the bible. You, alone of everybody in history, has been stupid enough to worship the bible.
Hell, if you don't believe me, then ask your minister. Ask him: "what/who do you pray to: God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible?" Ten bucks says he answers God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, or some combination of the three. "But what about the Bible," you then need to ask him. "Don't you worship it as a deity? Don't you think that it's equivalent to God?" Then when he says no, good luck finding another church that agrees with your bat**** insane interpretation of the bible.Last edited by loinburger; November 3, 2011, 22:03.
HTML is disabled in signatures

Actually, I mentioned this to my wife and she says she's encountered literal bibliolatry before. Don't know where.

Ok Elok
1. Christ, the Word of John 1:1, was active in the creation of the world. Not surprising.
2. If you don't like that, the Genesis account shows God saying, "Let it be X," and X happens. I.e., these things are literally caused by God's spoken word.
Whether 1 and 2 are functionally different is a matter for real theologians.

Also, this isn't terribly important, but it just occurred to me that the incident with Ezekiel and the dry bones was part of a vision, and therefore the objection you made to Imran's use of Revelation technically applies to it.

There is no scriptural evidence for his theology, nore are there any church fathers to back it up.
Now I did like what he said about liberals "they play word games with the truth" but I have to say that he is very liberal.
