I know very well. I used to work for banks in Manhattan.

I could get higher in Manhattan, which would offset the higher cost of living. But then I'd live in a ****ing shoebox in Manhattan. And why?

NYC was fun to visit a couple (dozen) times but I've no interest in ever living there. And it has actively been an option for years. Too busy, the people are *******s (and not the good kind), the traffic is awful, etc.

Another thing to keep in mind is the salaries in Calgary are actually very, very good. Especially relative to the cost of living. The massive energy industry here overpays for everything, which drives the cost up for every other sector. I don't even work in energy, but my salary is much higher than what I'd get in Toronto (with a higher cost of living) because the energy companies are always trying to hire people, too.

There are enough different ways of measuring per capita income that I don't trust any comparison to be apples to apples, but you keep crowing about citing things based on 11-year-old census data with the average American earning around $25,000, which hasn't been true in over a decade.
