The cult of Shake Shack is hipster. Standing in line for 45 minutes for a 15 dollar "fast food" meal is the epitome of hipster bull****.

Seriously, if you think Shake Shack is a hipster hangout you need to get your head examined.

It's not a hipster hangout, its a hipster favorite. It's the mentality of "oh it's so exclusive, so you have to wait and pay more, ergo it's better than anything else" that reeks of hipster. Maybe a bit of self important *******.

Personally, for milkshakes + burgers, my favorite place is Steak n Shake.

5 guys is crap. I mean it, the whole place is ****ing crap. They only sell their burgers well done and the dumb **** behind the counter keeps pushing down on them squeezing out all of the juices so that their burger ends up dry as a hockey puck and just as enjoyable to eat. I've been to four different 5 guys restaurants and they all are equally bad; it's no wonder they drown the burger in ketchup and mayo to try to cover their worthless dry patties. Also as MRT stated their fries are even worse than their burgers because the extra starch and poor prep style makes them mushy and crumbly with an odd after taste. Worst of all the cheats want to charge $10-$15 for their meal deal? I can honestly get a high end gourmet burger in a fancy restaurant for that price which will actually taste good or I can get a great burger at a nonfancy restaurant for $4-$7 both of which beat the junk 5 guys is selling. Hell, for $2.35 ($2.55 if I want grilled onions on it) I can get a double double at In N' Out which is juicy, fresh, never frozen, with a wonderful time tested taste to it.

There is just no comparison and anyone who claim 5 guys isn't crap is either a fool or just likes terrible food.

This is so true. Their patties are so dry and nasty they put on gobs of ketchup and mayo to try to cover up the dryness. The result is a soggy bun with a patty which tastes like salty cardboard. Just terrible.

Seriously? I'm looking at Shake Shack's menu now and they're completely different than in n out and five guys in scope.

Check out that picture of a burger and fries from my local chain restaurant burger of choice, Burger Lounge. Organic, fresh not frozen, free range, grass fed beef, which is locally sourced, served a perfect medium rare yet cooked on a very hot grill so the burger gets a nice char on it, the fries are twice fried in suet so they come out crispy and perfectly done, it's topped (in this case) with a slice of real California cheddar cheese, and the bun is practically a work of art. The cost is almost exactly the same as 5 guys but the burger & fries are light years better in every way. 5 guys just plain sucks.

Heck, there are even roach coaches around here which make awesome burgers of the same caliber for just $8. The MiHo Gastro Truck makes a great burger right there on the spot yet it costs half the price of the crap 5 frauds is shilling. The Counter isn't bad either though they tend to go over board with the options; who needs over 100 different topping, meat, and bun options?

Yeah, I made a point of stopping there last time I was in NYC. It's nice but don't tell me it isn't a douche hipster/yuppy place. Sure, I like douche hipster yuppy places and frequent them myself which is why I can smell my own.

A great burger place MUST at least offer to cook the burger medium rare for you. The ONLY reason a place would demand their burgers be cooked well done is because they know they're serving low quality industrial commodity beef so they're worried about giving their customers food poisoning. If your meat is high quality, fresh, and from a reputable butcher then you can serve a burger medium rare without any worries. 5 frauds won't do this so they're not a great burger place plus the way they cook the meat is just terrible because it results in a chewy, dry, and flavorless product. ANY place where the cook keeps pushing down on the burger to try and get it to cook faster just ruins the meat because it squeezes all the juices out. Life is too short to eat a bad burger especially an over priced bad burger.
