The Quran is only properly in Arabic which is not something studied in US highschools. Any styles come from unimportant translations.

The King James Bible is considered to have had a significant impact as far as style goes.

As far as narrative and story goes, US highschools focus on western (with an emphasis on that which influenced english) literature, where the Bible has much more relevance.

WRT King James, it's worthwhile just for the phrases that are used which have been incorporated into everyday speech. That's why I would teach it if I were a Lit prof.

religion has no part in modern day education
Absolute nonsense. If I were an Englishman, I don't see how you can even explain the concept of England without parishes.

The King James Bible is horribly written. It's dull and does far more telling than showing.

What relevance does the Koran have to American culture? I wouldn't expect folks in Saudi Arabia to have a required course on the bible, so why would I expect the reverse in America?
Maybe because Saudi Arabia is an authoritarian cultural backwater and the United States is a free country of diverse religious and ethnic groups, and furthermore, are you really satisfied comparing yourself to Saudi Arabia?

Ben, you're a fucktard of completely epic proportions. No two ways about it. Just curl under a rock and die and that will probably instantly cure the entire planet of AIDS and Ebola. Douche. Your dog would rather play fetch by itself and your mother probably regrets not having an abortion, because even if she believes abortion is murder, murdering satanbabies is a global service.

How many books have had an equally large print run in English?

That has nothing to do with the quality of its writing. It's a religious textbook.

Absolutely. America is not Saudi Arabia, because of Christianity, not in spite of it. The whole concept of religious freedom is a Christian concept.

Usually I regret reading Ben posts, but that one is just too funny.

By the way, Ben, you've become something of a running gag with my friends on my dorm floor. We have a Ben Post of the Day.

I agree that the Bible has influenced English language literature more.

For more than two centuries children in England and America learned to read by way of the KJV.

He's got a point, you can't really properly study the style of the Koran unless you know Arabic, and virtually no one knows Arabic.
