If religion isn't supposed to be taught in schools, it means all religions aren't to be taught in schools.

No, this poor type of thinking is exactly what I'm trying to root out.

No, only relevant religions should be taught. I've already stated that that thinking will lead us to teaching mormonism and scientology. Also, I've stated that teaching christianity will only be disruptive.

Is Judaism a relevant religion? It seems to impact our foreign policy as much as Islam does.

Many of them were forced to read it.
That people learned to read using it is significant. When a significant proportion of people in the US learn to read English through a specific translation of the Koran, then we can argue otherwise.

Argue what otherwise? My point is that it is still poorly written. You haven't addressed that at all.

oh come on. thats a strawman. there is basicly 4 major reigions and there is no reason they cant all get a basic run down. and if time permit i dont see a problem going into smaller ones like mormonism and scientology.

While I'll agree that Judaism is also important. I see no reason to include others at this time as mandatory classes. They could be electives or alternatives for those who are already a member of Islam or Judaism and wish to learn about one of the little guys.

I don't need a four minute video to figure out that Islam is stupid.

Judaism is a minor religion. Christianity, Islam, Buddhism are the only global ones.

Practically speaking, surely US schools should focus on teaching somethings that are currently grossly under-resourced, such as languages and decent science.

You could argue that you need to teach tolerance of 'the other' etc, but surely that's a case for a well-resourced world religions class; could divide it up into two: contemporary American religions in daily life; Catholics, Mormons, major Protestant sects, Judaism and Islam, and 'world religions', Judaism, Christianity, Islam et al. Maybe make the latter compulsory for studying any world history classes.

Certainly, we need to teach the Koran and the Bible too when studying relevant regional histories, I certainly couldn't have done Middle East Studies at Uni if I hadn't had a primer on the Koran.

Maybe teach the Koran directly at schools, but there's far more urgent priorities.
