Okay, I checked Wikpedia. If I read correctly, the HST replaces the GST and PST, and the PST is a cascading tax in most provinces, so the PST is stupid and should be replaced.
If people don't like paying PST/HST, they're welcome to move to Alberta.

This consumption tax would help BC balance their budgets on the backs of those who spend tho most - eg. people with the most money. The entire thing was an anti-Liberal political move. Well, you got what you wanted. Time to cut services for a few years. Stupid, stupid waste coasters.

It was a terrible deal that never should have been instituted in the first place, and will probably result in the destruction of the BC Liberal party as a political force. So we shall see how it all plays out. It destroyed Premier Campbell. A decision taken against the will of the people that cost the province an extra 1.5 billion dollars isn't going to be forgotten.

Uh, not really. The people with money will just buy in Alberta and pay no provincial sales taxes whatsoever. The people who get hit the hardest is anyone who buys and sells in BC, and cannot relocate elsewhere. HST was a terrible deal for the province during bad economic times.

I don't care about visible or invisible taxes. I only care what the total bill is. In fact I would support a law that forced businesses to post the total not the pretax amount.
