They also manage to have both the highest fraction of hypocritical holier-than-thou-types and the highest fraction of those who seem almost autistic in their fixation on either a religion or ideology and trying to live up to them.

I wouldn't expect otherwise (not meant disrespectfully). However I do state historically speaking and even today this is a very Eurocentric (dare I say "White"?) way to identify oneself.

Most of humanity still lives in societies where klan/kin and religion is the normative way to identify oneself or one's tribe.

What does that graph have to do with graduation rates, which was what was being addressed? You make a snarky joke about me living in the 1970s (which makes no sense, since black dropout rates were much worse then than now), but you provide a graph from 1995? Really?

Sure. There's no difference in outcomes of education between schools that are overcrowded and underfunded and schools like HC's. Keep believing that.

Those examples of inner city kids rising up through special schools are generally self-selecting populations. Ambitious kids with parents who give a damn try to get into the best charter schools.

I'm not talking about charter schools, I'm talking about instances that were made to improve the quality of education at inner city public schools via reduced class sizes, improved curriculum, offering more individual instruction and attention, etc. How are these "self-selecting?"

What do you even mean about graduating High School not improving their lives? I agree that they're not learning a damn thing, but even having the piece of paper is beneficial.

Is it? Most jobs that require only a HS diploma these days are also open to those without them (and I by that I mean that more and more jobs are requiring AA degrees at the very least). Getting into college with a piece of paper from a HS that isn't well-regarded isn't particularly easy either, and then there's the whole issue of them even being able to *afford* to go to college. If one's expectation is to not go to college because no one can pay for it and they're gonna be needed at home anyway by getting a crap fast food job to help pay for family expenses, that's not going to help with motivation or ambition while in high school. "Hey, I get the paper, and then it's off to McDonald's so I can help mom pay the electric bill... Wait, I can work there now. **** this ****."

That's just one scenario among many possible, but I've never seen any evidence of "Graduating is so WHITE, so I'm not gonna do it..."
