I think it funny that those that would make guns illegal also complain about government interference in other things, that that aren't already addressed by the constitution.
Making them illegal would just create another huge group of criminals, because people aren't going to give them up, and black market will flourish. That's so much better, isn't it?

I see where you're coming from (WRT my stance on the legalisation of drugs), but this is about mitigating the ability of people to **** other people up, as opposed to just ****ing themselves up.

Besides, the US is ****ed anyway. The country is so awash with guns that any tightening of gun laws like this is going to have virtually nil effect anyway. Quite sad, really...

Uh, what exactly is this supposed to demonstrate? On one hand, you point out that a stronger federal government could get the guns out of the hands of the populace but on the other hand that stronger federal government was communist totalitarianism. See I don't think that really counts as getting guns out of the hands of the criminals because the criminals are just the government.

It is supposed to demonstrate that it is indeed possible to disarm a country's population, but the process isn't going to be a democratic one, more of a "send in the Union army, violently suppress the resistance of state militia, execute those who refuse to give up their firearms, then send in the federal police (don't forget to create it in advance) to search for hidden caches, execute those who have created the caches, repeat several times". Bloody? Yes. Efficient? Yes. Enough federal political power to pull this off? No.

While murders happen, I've never seen a gun being used in any civilian situation. It has a lot more to do with who you run with and where you do your running.
