I can't speak for the Brits but here religion and education were entangled at the time of Confederation when the population was much more religious. It is the disentangling in the modern age that is messy.

You were explaining the necessity for the religious folks at the daycare was because some people work on their holy days. I pointed out the day has 24 hours and that these people (that are choosing to work on their holy day mind you) can still squeeze an hour or two in for soul saving. I then asked what excuse the christians have as most christians don't work Sunday. Why the need for a monday-friday pop-in at the daycare? Your answer doesn't address the point.

I recall your friend is a Quaker. That sounds like a strong reaction to other peoples' expressions in a public environment.
This friend was a JW. It wasn't a "reaction" it was what his faith required.

I had to deal with something similar yet different. I was not Christian and the Lord's Prayer was not uncommon in several settings I was in when I was growing up. It did not hurt to remain silent. I do rise when others pray out of respect for them, like at funerals.
Not the same thing. It was meaningless to you but your faith didn't require you to absent yourself.

I'd say needing to leave the room is a pretty intolerant demand placed on your friend by his co-religionists, or intolerant of him for demanding it of himself.
I'm sure if numbers warranted a JW school he would have loved to have attended there instead. Unfortunately no such school existed so he attended the public school. This is the problem with your "like minded" sending their kids to a faith daycare of their choice - What happens to the ones left out? Asher has repeatedly pointed out the scarcity problem to you without effect.

"intolerant" - nice. I get it for thinking church and state should be separate (what a radical idea!) and this unnamed friend gets it because his beliefs call for different requirements than yours. I think you should be careful throwing rocks.

Too damn boring for me. Ditto the mormons.

Nah I mean seriously. They are loonies. They needlessly refuse medical care, including for their children, etc.

Plus, guess how many times the Watchtower Society predicted the end of the world and were wrong yet people still follow this crazy ****? Years the world was supposed to have ended, according to the Jehovah's Witnesses: 1914, 1915, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975 and 1994.

****ing retards. You'd think they would have lost all credibility by now.

Um Albie...I can point out absurdities with all religions. Faerie tales and ghost stories abound.

It's hard to point at one in particular and say "They are the crazy ones."

Well yeah but they made the crucial mistake of recently claiming something that only the passage of a very short amount of time would demonstrate as false. That's an absurdity greater than what other religions do.

They aren't alone in that. Haven't the Adventists missed the mark on the prediction more than once?

edit - apparently the Adventists keep getting the date of Jesus' return wrong.

                      Hey

                      1) It's Marines with a capital M.
                      2) I didn't fail. I was injured.
                      3) It's called perseverance; someone without a spine wouldn't know what that means apparently.

Hopefully you have the spine of a Jehovah's Witness and will persevere

Oh and if you didn't fail, why aren't you in the marines by now?

There's nothing authoritarian about regulating how public money is spent. That is how governments are run (excluding third world dictatorships).

Public money is not meant to be spent to indoctrinate religions. Simple as that. Not any more authoritarian as a rule saying public money should not be used to teach pre-schooler how to mutilate animals or rape nuns. Regulation of public monies != authoritarianism.

As for thinking, you might want to think that it is the role the market and individuals acting in the market to solve any shortages the way the GoQ has set things up. Nowhere has it been stated, that I have read, that a shortage of spaces motivated this decision
It doesn't matter if you haven't read anything about something which anyone should know.

You don't seem to see the difference in being perfect and having morals. Morals do, in fact though, cause you to behave morally (but not perfect).
