Seriously, how was Palin not idiotic pandering? I could have voted for McCain if he hadn't pulled such a ***** move and picked someone half retarded."I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui

Obviously Obama won in 2008 by running on conservative principles“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

How can I be owned by a toll booth worker? You are incapable of forming complete thoughts, and your attacks lack wit and depth. It's why all your posts are typically one to two sentences long. As for Palin being pandering, I'd say it was more of a last ditch effort by a campaign that never had anything going for it in the first place. Palin is the only reason McCain's candidacy was energized for a short time until people realized they were still voting for McCain as president. He was a weak candidate in an environment that was extremely hostile to Republicans. The reality is that Obama never would have been elected if the Republicans had fielded a better candidate, even with the current environment. It was the perfect storm really. Large scale disasters usually need more than one contributing factor in order to occur, and Obama is a disaster of epic proportions.

Neocon foreign policy - by all means let's put that to bed. Sadly, however, it appears to be a bipartisan disease (they just fight over who is more "hawkish" really).
Low taxes - everybody wants that. It's not clear to me that cuts that are targetted at the top one-tenth of 1% are really what most voters have in mind, however. Especially given the massive, ever-growing disparity in wealth between the elite and everybody else. Also, without spending cuts, tax cuts are foolish. Spending first, revenue second.
Limited government - lots of people want it, but getting them to agree on a blueprint for action is a LOT harder. Once you get down to business and start asking for specific cuts, people try to exclude their sacred cows and it all falls down. I still have (dim) hope of some sort of grand liberal-conservative compromise wherein the Right gives on military spending and the Left gives on domestic programs, but... yeah, dim hope.
As for socialism, I think the candidate that displays and understanding that socialism can include corporate welfare as well as "pork" might have a chance to garner votes from both liberals & conservatives.
Social issues to the states: I'm mostly ok with that, though it depends on just how far it goes. Obviously, if a state wanted to do something really crazy unconstitutional (say, in direct violation of the 1st amendment), that's a problem and the feds (via SCOTUS) would have to be involved. Ideally, however, I'd like to let Kansas be Kansas and Connecticut be Connecticut and all that.
It is also unclear to me that these Tea Party candidates are "real conservatives" either.

I dunno. Things were pretty awful for any GOP candidate, really. The GOP brand was pretty toxic by 2008. It was always going to be pretty easy for the Dems to paint the GOP candidate as "Bush's third term" and that's just a killer.
As for Obama being a disaster, eh. I'm disappointed with him so far, but he hasn't come close to his predecessor yet.

The nice thing about this Arrian is that most people in this country think he's a disaster, which is why polls are pointing to the biggest Republican land slide in history. As for the tea party being conservative...wait and see I guess. My biggest fear is that once they're elected into office it will be business as usual and they won't follow through on what they were elected to do. If that happens, then revolution really becomes the only viable option to bring the government back under control.

You are such a yellow bellied coward.
I'm the coward and yet I bet that McCain would win 2/3rds of the college and 2/3rds of the states? Right.
Anyway, any of you brave, brave, men willing to take an even up bet that the dims will win AK + DE, let's get to it.
I find it hilarious that Boris is 'brave' for only accepting a bet when it's 53-42 for Coons. That's not bravery. That's the definition of cowardice.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

We'll see what the results are. It's common for the opposition party to make big gains in a mid-term election. Especially when the party in power has such a large majority. The Dems picked up a lot of seats in "red" states in the last couple of elections. Those were never going to be very secure.
As for revolution and all that... well, some Progressives are feeling exactly the same way after the 2008 election and the failure of Obama & the Congressional Dems to deliver on a host of things the Progressives wanted and believed they'd get (it's funny to hear people screaming "Socialist!" at Obama while the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party has basically decided he's a corporatist Bush-III).
I'm moving toward the belief that our political system is FUBAR. Both parties (entrenched to the point that alternative parties have almost no shot, which is a travesty) serve the same masters. And those masters aren't "the people."

I have no problem with a violent revolution pitting the left against the right for supreme dominance. I think it's pretty obvious who would win that match up. The more angry the populace becomes the better since the majority of the country leans right and the left is nothing more than hippies and losers with no talent or abilities.

It's EoN, what do you expect? He made one comment which made me think he might have decided to join us in reality (silly me), but I see now that was a broken clock moment.
