I don't know why you would label them stupid. It's just the older way of naming. Read a few older English novels and it's all Scotch, not Scots. Educate yourself.

A coffee mug would work just fine. But don't you have a single shot glass in your house?

shot glass? That's not any better.

You need either a tumbler or a Glencairn Scotch glass.

I have recently purchased a bottle of Battlehill, single malt Scotch whiskey, aged 11 years.

That's considered to be an "entry level" malt- something bland and inoffensive to win over drinkers of blended scotch.

Try one of the better Speyside malts. I'll recommend Glenfarclas, Macallan, Aberlour and Glenrothes. They're all great, and less threatening to beginners.

Then sample the island malts- they're radically different. The picks are Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Talisker, Caol Ila and Bowmore. These are heavyweights.

Oh yes- ice. If you're going to add ice, don't bother buying any of the above because they'll be wasted on you.

Glenfarclas was surprising when I first had it. Tasted heavily spiced, in a good way.

I used a coffee mug for every bottle of whiskey/scotch/whisky I drank.

I like to use a small brandy snifter, the better to concentrate those intoxicating aromas.
But in a pinch, a shot glass or cordial glass will suffice.

That's why I like the Glencairn scotch glass. Specifically designed for Scotch, also enhances the aromas:

I've got 5 of them now...every Whisky show I go to they give them out.

I didn't drink the Talisker out of the bottle, it was for special occasions.

I did drink Johnny Walker out of the bottle.

You've never lived if you haven't wandered around on a two day bender with a bottle of whiskey in your pocket.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
