I did the captain kirk thing and picked a third option, atheism.

Also Asher while I know you love trolling ben, keep in mind that many catholics are not devout. There's a protestant church for every belief but only one catholic church whether you agree with it 100% or not. So a lot of catholics are not homophobes.

Let's get real... think about Kuci's understanding of the world and apparently, HC is even more mathematically-centered than Kuci. These guys are hardly beings who possess any spiritual sense.

I'm not nearly as good at math as Kuci. Or even as math-centric. AS, you're an idiot, stop trying to psychoanalyze people over the internet, it's only making you MORE of a fool.

Anyone who claims to be a Catholic but does not adhere strictly to the teachings of the Catholic church is not an actual Catholic.

That's the one thing Ben has been right about.

If you're going to be a wishy-washy believer, become a protestant and choose the church that has the beliefs you want.

Jews can't eat bacon. Catholics pretend to eat long pig as a sacrament.

Go Aetheism or Paganism. You get to eat bacon either way and you don't have to eat dead prophets.

This makes about as much sense as Ben defining what it is to be gay.

Religion isn't supposed to make sense. It requires faith.

If you cannot put your faith behind the church you claim to be a member of, you are not a believer of that religion.

Most of the people who call themselves Catholics today do so out of a sense of familiarity and obligation, not faith. People who have faith in Catholicism but choose to not adhere to the teachings of their church do not have faith at all.

This whole conversation is absurd. People can believe whatever they want about God et. al., it only matters inasmuch as they try to push that belief onto others. Stuff like "Anyone who claims to be a Catholic but does not adhere strictly to the teachings of the Catholic church is not an actual Catholic" is silly and pointless.

For some reason all the Christians skipped over my post where I made a similar argument as Asher... that the duty of a Christian is only to worship the Lord God, accept Jesus Christ as Savior, and spread the Word of God throughout the world. Moral and religious relativism is not allowed for in Christianity (although interestingly enough is in Islam). Like it or not, all this modern Humanist thinking is an affront to true Christianity. A Christian can not make a statement like all religions hold value or that there are multiple ways to salvation... in Christianity there is only one way to salvation and that is accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. There is NO other way.

But the Christian apologists will come in here and make up some crap that is derived from the Humanist movement. It's NOT Christianity

Of course people can believe what they want about God. They're just mislabeling themselves if they claim to be Catholics without following the teachings of the Catholic Church.

I was raised religious (Protestant). I analyzed, discarded, and moved on. One could argue I'm seeing something others are missing, but I'm not that presumptuous.

I don't pretend to be an authority on the issue. I'm giving my opinion on it. Take it or leave it.

But you don't need to be religious to see things about religion.

You are defining what faith is for several hundreds of millions of people without having much of a clue about them.

It seems to me that Ben's ideas about fidelity in homosexual relationships are about as well founded as yours are on what it means to have faith for Catholics.

So only Catholics can discuss what faith is.

The problem is, we're defining who Catholics are. You seem to think anyone who claims themselves to be a Catholic is a Catholic. I think that's absurd, but whatever.

I'll solve this academic dilemma you've created: I am now a Catholic. Let us proceed with the discussion, and as a Catholic I can provide my input. I don't believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church, but apparently this isn't a prerequisite anyway.
