  • No matter-- Your good wishes mean as much to me as your prior negative opinion
Fair enough. But I was hoping you'd post and laugh at the carpetbagger comment.

    • They don't need an ultrasound in order to know everything they need to know to give "informed consent".
I'd argue that they do, because ultrasounds are the best equipment in showing exactly what they will be aborting.

They don't need to see an ultrasound to know what a fetus is and know that the procedure is going to destroy it.
To know what the 'fetus' is, yes, yes they should see an ultrasound.

And Catholics are 25% more likely than average... the lesser of two evils (not that I have a problem with early term abortions) is still evil.
No argument here. It is a pastoral concern. Catholics need to follow the teachings of the Church, when they stray, bad things happen.

      • A million abortions a year in Canada? What ****ing fantasy land do you live in, you ****?
I was referring to the US. Sorry for not clarifying. It's about a 100 thousand here.

        • If anything, I'd be partial to being pro-life if it were not for *******s like you.
So, be prolife then. Prolifers when asked the question as to whether or not they favour publicly funded abortions, say no. They don't say, "I have no opinion".

          You are a fencesitter.

Since you're only advocating this because you think it will cause some women to change their mind, how about you provide some evidence for that? If it really offers new information then it should change some minds. I think this is really just more bureaucratic red tape aimed at undermining the right to have an abortion.

Not everyone can understand such a difficult concept.

I have planned a nice little love-in at my flat for the weekend, yay! Unfortunately my ex who is sort-of moved out has texted me to say she's coming back on Friday, which is rather markedly inconvenient, I'm sure you might agree.

So... what the hell do I do. Oh god.
Continue with the love-in and ignore her. The awkwardness should drive her away.

That ultrasound is effective at changing people's mind? Sure. I have some work I have to do, but I'll see what I can find.

You don't think it's important to see the unborn child before you have an abortion?

From the standpoint of informed consent, I think it's essential to have this information before.

You honestly don't see the difference between how easy it is to judge how people in a certain situation choose to act, and actually experiencing the situation for yourself? It's incredibly easy for you as someone who is unlikely to ever be in a situation where you've gotten a girl pregnant by accident to go on about the specifics of just how bad abortion is, but how would you truly deal with the situation? What if you had to give up your own career, what if your family rejected you for your foolishness? You'd also have to consider how SHE might act- what if a girl you loved chose an abortion? Would you consider her an evil, murdering monster, or simply a poor deluded fool? Or would you try and get past things... well, who knows?

Basically, you can't possibly know. And if you think you do, you're a fool. I don't expect you to know how you'd act, and I'm sure you'd do your best to stick to your values, but a bit more understanding of how other mere mortals - even and especially Catholics - see the situation would not go amiss.

Bull**** link to some anti-abortion blog that makes extraordinary claims like "95% of women that see the ultrasound do not go through with an abortion" without offering a source. I'm getting the impression that pro-lifers have deluded themselves into thinking that no informed individual could really disagree with them and therefore women could only be getting abortions because of some massive conspiracy to cover up the truth.

I sometimes click quote+ then forget about it, then the next time I quote something I've got random **** in the quote box.

I usually prefer holding CTRL and clicking "quote" to queue up the posts I'm to reply to. Unless they're consecutively from the same person. I run into the ****ing retarded 30s post limiter 100x a day, though.

                                That is somewhat irritating.
