I love this statement more than I'd care to discuss on Apolyton.

By a god you mean an omnipotent being, right? By definition such a being can do anything. They can ensure one unified religion, and they can also choose not to.

Which imaginary beings does atheist have?

Anyways, I do have to say that those that actually follow Jesus are more filled with love for their fellow humans, especially the disadvantaged than atheists, just as a general measure. However, in the same context atheists are nicer folks than those that use Christianity (or any religion) in order to control and judge others.

By which you essentially are agreeing that all other religions are made up? Why would such a being allow their people to be misguided and cheated in such a way?

              Which is another thing, whoever this/these God/Gods* is/are, he/she/it/they is/are a nasty ****er/****ers!

Heck, I think Christians should go to different denomination services to see what other places are doing and the liturgical differences
Not a bad idea. I did the same myself going to a very Pentecostal like Mennonite service to the Catholic church. Night and day in terms of their understanding of the liturgy.

As for Jon's statement, yes and no. It's hard to explain because Christianity isn't an ideology in the traditional sense.

Ideologies are systems of abstract thought. Christianity is a way of life. It's not just a system that you put on a piece of paper. I think a better way of understanding it is like if you were playing nethack. You have classes which play very differently, and you have conducts within those classes, voluntary limitations.

IIRC virtually every religion sends non believers to their versions of hell...

Which is another thing, despite the majority of the world's population believing in some form of religion, the majority of the world's population, by definition, has backed the wrong horse and is going straight to some form of fiery inferno or other such nasty place when they die because they can't all be right...

Has it ever occured to the Christians here that actually Islam is the religion you should be believing in and you've been wasting your time believing in the wrong God? I bet Allah has a special place in hell for people who jump ship to other religions Immy...

I'm willing to gamble with my soul that the Muslims are wrong and I am right. But nice try though.

Not all of Christianity believes in hell. SDAs do not, for example.

Muhammed was a pedophile, so Islam would be great for you. You could have up to four child brides, even.

By the way, in Pollards book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physicist_and_Christian (there is a link to it from Wiki, is interesting to read although I don't agree with all of it) he presents the view that many (including non-christian/judaic) people have experience with God. To him, the defining difference is that Christianity has a history of revelation and the best in Christ.

Many Christians, from all sorts of denominations, would say that some non-Christians will be saved. That God judges the heart.

When you die: if theres no god then youre just dead. if theres a benevolent god then youre probably alright as long as you arent a ****. If theres a malevolent god then youre probably going to be ****ed no matter what you do (as you say, the majority are 'wrong')
