Not likely. And I'm a firm believer that after 11 hours you start making mistakes that just make you work longer the next day. If you work 12 hours a day for any period of time, you'll burn out and not be effective.
The number of hours is different for different people, but I agree.

Yeah, people always notice if I stick around and assume it's really an emergency and fall all over themselves telling me how dedicated I am and thanking me. The guys that do it everyday get pissed. But a lot of those guys that put in a lot of hours do a lot of FACE time and not fooling anyone.

when it was my own thing i would work long hours. if i work for other people, i'll do 9-5 (or some variation thereof) unless they pay me handsomely to do more.

At my company, they never discuss extra hours. It never happens, according to them. If it happens, it must NOT be documented. We fill out weekly timesheets which always equal 40 hours, no matter what. If we documented lots of overtime (as some people work), it's an easy lawsuit.

              We're not consultants. Full timers.

I used to be a consultant for my day job, I'm currently a full-time, regular til July 6th when I'm quitting. Then I'm not sure.

My contract specifies my working hours + occasional overtime when required.

This thread is reinforcing my opinion that most people work for idiotic employers.

I could get more money working 12 hour days in London, but it's pointless, I'd be less happy.

This is how the vast majority of companies work.

The hours aren't fixed in terms of 9-5, just in terms of 40 a week.
