Yes, I can see how you can mistake me for a big government liberal, seeing as these are some of my positions:

1) The government should stay out of the private lives of citizens (you want more regulation)
2) Public servants are paid too much
3) Government kowtow to unions far too much
4) The military is a black hole of money, operations overseas should cease immediately and we should only have a basic military focused on civil assistance and rudimentary defense
5) The CPP is useless, people should save up for their own retirement if they want to have one.

I haven't seen you being critical of the outrageous military expenditures in the US, nor have you been critical of the government's role in regulating the private lives of citizens. Seems to me like you're the big government guy, of the two of us.

I make 3 comments-- even numbering them for your convenience and you simply take them out of context. They are again

1. This isn't an Obama thing
2. Canada (and other nations)face similar issues and
3.How true your statement is varies across job types

Oh and my friend and I. I make about twice what she does now, working similar hours (an average partner in a law firm probaly makes 1.5 to 2 times what I do but works longer). Her pension is better than mine but if I invested all my excess after-tax income compared to her, I think I would do just fine

Those numbers are overall, not just between two people.

I realise this is a problem everywhere, Canada included. Pensions are too high for civil servants. They are crippling budgets.
