I hope you are being sarcastic, but if you aren't:

    1. He ****ing KILLED HAMILTON
    2. He tried to get western parts of the US to SECEDE and form his own monarchy, and was tried for treason

Why is Calhoun on there? How is he in the same class as Quayle?
The slaveholding Southerner who would have started the Civil War in the 1830s/1840s given any provocation at all? Yeeaah...

Dick Cheney is a hundred times smarter than Al Gore.
Well, agreed. I actually don't mind Cheney. I just included him because he was a constant choice from the other forum.

I grant you that as well. He was smart enough NOT to run for president. Much better to wield power from behind the scenes.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

How the **** is Walter Mondale worse than Henry Wallace?

And HC, I'm actually only kinda kidding. I do know that Gore Vidal did a pretty one-sided portrayal of Burr. I am also somewhat aware that he was a far more effective VEEP than, say, Jefferson. But I don't know a ton about the guy.

That's because Jefferson's president was of a different party.

              Fair enough.

But you do have to admit, that if you are bringing up the treason/secession charge, John C. Calhoun would have to be just as bad. He never actually did it, but he would have, and I doubt even he would deny it.

My point was more that Burr was corrupt, power-mad and above all a murderer.

Thats funny, because that provacation existed yet he never did any such thing. And shall we catalogue the long list of slaveholders held up as the great statesmen of our nation, starting with Jefferson?

You obviously know nothing of the man's career. Having served as the Secretary of War, Secretary of State, and Vice President twice each under a different president puts his qualifications a bit higher than Quayle. Even if you disagree with him he was hardly an intellectual light weight as any history of the time will atest to.

                      Good question.

                      He's Carter's VP for pete's sake.

                        Dan Quayle

I can't believe you people think that Dan Quayle (or Al Gore) would be worse than Spiro Agnew (an actual criminal) or Henry Wallace (a communist Soviet shill).

I'll give you Wallace (my vote, incidentally), but all VPs are politicians, so the "actual criminal" charge doesn't go very far.

Well, true. Let me rephrase: He got caught. Which, incidentally, was Nixon's only crime when it came to Watergate - the Kennedy's had been doing it for years.
