    Energy is a perfectly valid way to solve for the question.

        I know XD
        Oh god, if I showed this to my physics teacher his head would probably just burst.

        This is priceless

          I can't believe he got it that wrong after a day to think about it.

              I gave this less than five minutes effort, but I'm a lawyer, not a physicist. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong:

              Spoiler:
              t = S/(2*g*Mu)
              vf = S/2
              Ff = 0 (no opposing force being applied)

              The real dilemma is who I bill for that five minutes.

                You have the wrong coefficients on your answers.

                  Typed it in as I had it written down without looking to see what it actually said (that is, if what I corrected is what you're referring to).

                      Take the parentheses out of the expression for t. As it read, but inadvertently, I had Mu*g on the other end of the fraction.

                        I think your coefficients are still wrong, or I could be making a dumb mistake. I just did this problem myself (lost my original answer, and besides I should study for my AP anyway) and got:

                        a. S/(3gu)
                        b. S/3
                        c. 0 (duh, this is my favorite one. did ben answer this one? I want to know what his answer was.)

                        Only spent a few minutes on it so I could have made some careless error.

                          Why is it (S/2)?

                          edit: crosspost

                            By the way here are the followup questions that don't have latex:
                            d) Develop expressions for the following energies:
                            i) The initial kinetic energy in the moving slab before the block is placed on top of it
                            ii) The final kinetic energy of the slab, once the objects are moving together
                            iii) The final kinetic energy of the block, once the objects are moving together
                            iv) The amount of energy removed from the slab's kinetic energy by the frictional force
                            v) The amount of energy delivered to the block's kinetic energy by the frictional force
                            vi) The amount of energy "converted to heat" in the process.

                            if anyone is bored enough to attempt them

                              Your answer would be right if the masses were the same, I believe
