Technically, legally speaking you have to walk or drive into Mexico and then turn around and walk or drive back to the US to get items duty free as all duty free items are supposed to be for export. No one is checking this though so no one actually does it. They just buy the stuff duty free and then go home.

Sounds to me like you're breaking the law then. I doubt you report internet purchases for sales tax purchases, either.

Last I checked, California still required you to report the purchases and pay sales tax separately.

Most of the major online stores now automatically charge sales tax for any customer in California. It sucks but you can't avoid it unless you only shop at the smaller sites.

I haven't bought anything from Amazon since the new sales tax measure passed but I did buy a 1080p tv from Dell and they most certainly charged tax.
