It's interesting that those that defend spanking of children would surely think it unacceptable to smack around their wives.

If they can't have reasoned through that the stove is hot. But can take aversion (which very young kids can't), than yeah... I would rather have a light swat to teach aversion rather than a possible scarring (and much more painful) burn.

Parents have the responsibility to care for children, not the state. Yes, you are right that they are individuals but we don't give them the same rights or responsibilities as adults.

There is a huge difference between spanking as used as discipline and physical abuse. And you can see it in the two different sets of kids. I have siblings who were physically abused. I and my brother were spanked.

Our responses/behavior/formulation were extremely different.

No, I and my brother were never abusive to animals or people.

Same with groups that I didn't observe as closely as my own family members.

This whole idea that we need to slap kids around to keep them away from stoves and electrical outlets is retarded. What if one has a particularly dangerous house, then the kid gets smacked alot? That beyond retarded, it's fkn ridiculous. Sweden outlawed spanking and there was not a spike in kids touching stoves.
