The gov will claim "obstructionist opposition" and the Opposition points out the minority status of the gov as reasons why they must compromise too. End result - election.

If they do not screw around in the coalition, it would make it very difficult for Cameron to call an election on his own terms.

In our case, Harper was facing an opposition majority that was screwing with the government (or so he could credibly claim). Cameron will have a majority represented in his cabinet.

the BNP tend to attract most of their support from disaffected members of the white working class. these people would usually vote labour.

disaffected right-wing members of the middle class, who would usually vote tory, tend to drift towards UKIP.

That's a screwed up map. According to it, I should vote Lib Dem, and everyone on Poly should be voting well to the left of SDIP.

Shift everyone -5 -5 and it makes much more sense.

Fixed term just means that the government can't call a snap election when they are at their most popular to ensure they get eg. 8 years instead of 5.

yeah i think it's a pretty good deal over all. personally i'm very excited about educational reform. it's a disgrace that there are still so many bad schools in this country, and hopefully 'free schools' and the pupil premium will start to address this.

also, a sensible policy on europe which should keep euro-sceptics happy. at least, i'm happy with it, and i'm a massive euro sceptic!

moves towards tax reform to take more low earners out of tax, which should in turn help with welfare reform by making working more attractive.

What exactly is Alternative Vote?

Alternate Vote basically is used to ensure whoever wins the district has the support of 50% of voters. What would happen is voters would rank their preferences. Then if no person got 50% of the vote, the person with the lowest votes would be eliminated and those that put him or her at #1 would have their votes reallocated to whoever they put #2, until someone got over 50%.

If the Tories actually follow up these assurances, the Libs just got the deal of the century. Bar the anti-Europe stuff it's a Liberal manifesto with Tory branding.
