I don't really see how hexagons are a step forward - the game is effectively played with octagons at the moment.

It's certainly a step up from Sid, Brian, and Soren.

                This is false.

Hot diggity, hexes. Does this mean no more cross-shaped city zones?

I'd like to see cities/workers get an upgrade. The tile/worker mechanic is due for an improvement imo.

How so? On the current square tiled map, 8 tiles can be accessed from each tile. On a hexagonal tile, only 6 can be.

Well, if we wanted to be pedantic, an octagonal tile system is impossible...hexes are another one of those niggling things that mildly enrage me, though. If you can move straight north and south you should be able to move straight east and west as well, dammit!

Not that it matters since my PC's prolly too weak to play it by about a gig and a half of RAM.

That doesn't make them octagons. The civ4 map is not a planar graph.

Conceptually speaking, Kuci, Civ can be considered a planer graph. The way that pieces move is point to point, in eight directions. It's only the graphics that make it a square grid.
                                John Brown did nothing wrong.
