? The greater-distance-diagonals "problem" isn't much of a problem in my book. I guess it's incorrect, but it doesn't hurt gameplay in any way I can discern. The lost freedom of movement is a much more bothersome thing; the only game I ever played with hexes was Panzer General, and one of the reasons I disliked it was that if I wanted a unit to move directly east I had to make it wiggle up and down like a caterpillar, which was ridiculous and rather dispelled the whole army-commander illusion.

This is my problem, too. I'm not sure I like the hex idea. It irks me, but I share some of the same aggravation qualities as you do...

Congrats and good luck to Jon on this. It wasn't so long ago that he gave up his weekend to play Civ 4 with us at Polycon.

It's outstanding that a modder is given the keys to the kingdom.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The only scenarios he designed have been horrible both technically and stylistically, judging by the constant emails I get with BTS complaints that Firaxis has apparently decided to automatically forward to me.

Looks like the timing was good for my PC to die, since I just got a pretty sweet machine that should run this nicely.

Can we request that one of the new Wonders can be "Socialised Healthcare"? Not sure it would add much to the game, but the fallout here would be priceless.

The only thing better would be having to choose between George W. Bush and Barack Obama as the American leader.
