I wonder who was that idiot who decided it's a great idea to have metal poles every 5 meters alongside the track? A metal pole is the worst thing to absorb the energy of unlucky luger when he hits it at 150 kmph. Anything is better: tyres, airbags, nets, even simple wooden/plastic shield.

People survive car crushes when they hit airbags at much greater speeds than 90mph. Stun actors jump from roofs on empty cardboard boxes and don't have a single scratch after that. The designers of the track have nearly unlimited space (aside limited space in case of car airbags) and resources to make the track safe. The just don't do it, because nobody gives a damn.

From the looks of it the pole he hit was holding up a roof in a spectator area. Imagine if this had happened during a competition and the area had been packed with people. There might have been multiple deaths in addition to his own.

Remove spectator area away from the track and fill the space alongside the track with material that absobs impact, like rubber tires or cardboard boxes or just nets or whatever. The design of the track is flawed and that killed the guy. Canadian tracks filled with metal poles are perfect deathtraps.

Go read a real history book. Georgia was an independent nation when it was attacked by the USSR in 1921 and forcibly added to the Soviet Union. Stalin was a foreigner that used the Bolsheviks to conquer his own country, something Lenin wasn't pleased with.
