I would suggest, for next year's contest, that rule 7 be amended to include the intended deadline for consistency as the other rules that seem to have deadlines have the dates explicitly delineated in the rules (Rules 3, 4, 6, 12 that I can see).

Admittedly, I've not read all the posts to make sure that I understand, but this is the impression that I get from a quick scan.

ColdWizard turned in his picks after the 1st of January.
The picks were accepted.
The day after he turned in his picks, an entry died, but...
It wasn't noted in the thread until months later.
It appears, from looking at the above posted rules, that there is no stipulation on time to report the demise, as long as it's reported.

If these facts are correct, I vote that ColdWizard get points for the entry.

I submitted my picks on December 16th. One of my selections died on December 17th. I didn't notice until months later. Wezil has allowed a vote on whether to allow a substitution. The vote failed, there is no substitution. Stipulation on time to report demise is open to interpretation which is why Wezil had the vote in the first place.

Under no legitimate interpretation of the facts and rules is points for the entry a valid remedy. The choice is between keeping the already-dead entry on the list, at zero points, and moving the first alternate up to that spot.
