Elizabeth Edwards has died of cancer, NBC News has confirmed. She was 61.

Gravely ill with cancer that no longer responded to treatment, Elizabeth Edwards was reportedly not in any pain and was surrounded at home in North Carolina by family and friends, including her estranged husband John Edwards, a former Democratic presidential candidate.

Her death came at 10:15 Tuesday morning, according to a family friend. The scene was described as "very peaceful."

The friend said, "Elizabeth did not want people to say she lost her battle with cancer. The battle was about living a good life and that she won."

            • Married to a bright, handsome man who turned out to be a lying, cheating scumbag, then death by cancer. By all accounts I've read, she was always a stand-up person. She certainly deserved better than this.

              RIP.

                • I doubt anyone has him on their list but I just found out that General Johnson from Chairmen of the Board died on Oct. 13th. Two days before, I had posted of Solomon Burke's passing but didn't know General Johnson died soon after.

                  RIP General Johnson

General Johnson, who provided the distinctive lead vocal for the Chairmen of the Board’s 1970 Top 10 hit, “Give Me Just a Little More Time,” and went on to become a successful rhythm-and-blues songwriter, died Wednesday in suburban Atlanta. He was 69 and lived in East Point, Ga.

                      • Looking at scoring totals from past years, we're down significantly as a group. Factor in that we've had no scoring since October and I'm expecting some hot celeb death action in these final three weeks.

                        • He didn't make it.

Richard Holbrooke, a brilliant and feisty U.S. diplomat who wrote part of the Pentagon Papers, was the architect of the 1995 Bosnia peace plan and served as President Barack Obama’s special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, died Monday, the State Department said. He was 69.
