I was a "hold my cards close to my chest" DM. My brother was a "transparent" DM. He would even get volunteers to co-DM with him to help him make all the throws when a large party was playing. He wasn't afraid of others seeing the secrets of his world. He was considered a much better DM than I.
We had a DM's screen but most of the big rolls or even ho-hum battle rolls were made on the table where everyone could see. No hard feelings that's just the way the dice rolled.

I started with first then transitioned to second which I found to be largely the same look and feel with just a few stream lined rules to make things easier. I never played 3rd and 4th but it looked completely retarded and aimed at munchkins who wanted ubergods who could do absolutely unbelievable things while we relished a low magic environment where it was better to think your way through things. 3rd and 4th have special skills which don't require you to think and instead you use super human abilities to out power everything in your path. Retarded.

Well... That's just sad. If I can get a reasonably cute blond chick to move in with me then what the hell is wrong with you?

But more likely, she's getting paid by a vendor to dress up like that, and will be hooking up with the first guy she meets at the first bar she goes to, who she doesn't recognize from the GamingCon

Did you read the rest of my post? Also, I'm emotionally unavailable and typically don't call women back once I sleep with them. That's not conducive to "move in" relationships. Yes, I have problems. No, I'm not working on them.

Floyf likes fighting his way up stream. Cool, go for it. Someone has to be 50 and working at McDonald's.

Yes, I just didn't believe a god damned word of it.

Don't worry, mate. Just come to Comic-Con. Sure, the paid actresses won't give you the time of day but you can wear your LARP uniform and people won't laugh at you.

The fact that you describe your "roommate" as "reasonably attractive" is very telling. Odds are, she's 170 pounds, and still sees you as a friend and nothing more

Player deaths did happen in all the last three games I played.

In mine the DM never fudged dice rolls but we did have a house rule where, once per game, each player could change a roll to a natural 20. That meant players could be heroes even if we had a low magic game high in realism.

Rather, I didn't want to brag as that would be tacky. Either way I don't give a **** about your opinion and do indeed feel very secure in my choices. I've posted enough on other sites where people whose opinion I care about know the truth.

If their wizard dies tripping over a rock, then that's the story; they laugh it off and create a new character. For other players, this sort of thing would ruin the dramatic tension of the game and make for an unnecessary hassle. So yeah, the DM fudging dice is totally okay for certain kinds of games.

I never knew anyone who was into D&D or those games with the plastic figurines you paint (I can't think of the name) until going to college. I don't understand the appeal of D&D.
