  • Question: I'm looking at sample cover letters and at the very end, after your signature they all seem to have the word "enclosure", what's that about? Is that standard?

    • Enclosure means that something is attached, which in this case, will be the resume itself.

      • Oh, ok. I would think that would be obvious.

        • In this case, yes it would be obvious, but it's just following an old business standard for regular memos.

          • I put it in since this is a faxed resume, but the database entered ones I won't.

            • For a fax, put Attachment rather than Enclosure. Enclosure is used for something you give in hardcopy. If you have more than one attachment, then put the number of attachments in parentheses. F.e., if you have a resume and references attached, put "Attachments (2)".

              Good luck.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. • i'm still hoping to get hired by this gluten-free cafe. i've been back to work for a few months now. one of the benefits to being a line cook; there are ALWAYS people hiring. the biggest drawback is that most restaurants are cesspits of narcotics and alcoholics, and the hours inevitably suck unless you can get onto one of the hotly coveted day shifts.

the gluten-free cafe is none of these things, however. i can't afford to accept lower pay than what i'm making now, but it would be worth the longer drive for me to get the peace of mind from working sane hours and not being surrounded by apathetic drug addicts.

At least one group is going to make me an offer (they're calling me tomorrow with details). Don't know about the other group.

                          • That's great. Congrats. Now you too can join the ranks of the overworked, overpaid.

Which group appeals to you more?

I wonder if randomturn went back to Goldman after the Kerry campaign.

                            • Don't know which group appeals more. One is in a generally more prestigious branch, but involves more technical (read programming) work, while the other is less prestigious (in general finance view; not at Goldman, apparently) but involves more pure math/thinking.
