Thanks. I got the same input from a couple of recruiters. One of them is a really nice guy. Basically told me that he'd shop me a couple of other places, but to take the Goldman job if I got it (he makes no money if I take Goldman job) and also gave me hard figures on salary expectations (nobody else ever wanted to tell me actual numbers). I told the nice dude that I'd think of him in the future if I ever need another job. He seemed genuinely happy with that.

How would that work? Would they send you to night school? Or would it be a part-time job and full-time school?Originally posted by Kuciwalker View PostInteresting. GE wants to send me to grad school at UIUC.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

They pay for him to be a full-time grad student and when he's done he's stuck in bonded servitude for 12 years12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

As a quant, are your clients all internal, or do they wheel you out in front of external clients?I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. That was a joke, Kuci. Your labour contract would be unenforceableOriginally posted by Kuciwalker View PostI assumed it was going to be full-time-job and part-time school (it's supposed to get me a masters in 3yrs), but then I realized the job was actually just outside Chicago, so I have to ask them.
edit: not what KH said. If I wanted that I'd join the army.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Depends on the person. Mostly internal. You talk to execs, traders, structurers, sales. They talk to clients. Some quants have good enough soft skills to manage not to frighten clients, but most do not.Originally posted by DanS View PostAs a quant, are your clients all internal, or do they wheel you out in front of external clients?12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Cool. I guess they're checking to make sure you aren't a total zero socially. FWIW, from what I have seen, you would do well in front of external clients, if you ever wished to do so.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter.
