This phone interview went okay, but not as good as the last one. The guy talked really, really fast and it made me nervous, so I screwed up the first question. He held my hand through it, and after that it was all right. Lost a sign on another question, but no biggy.
I think he was still pretty happy with me. He started talking about coordinating with the other group at Goldman that I talked to in order to bring me up on a joint in-person interview day and short-circuiting the rest of the telephone interviews.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Same here, but I'm one of the fortunate few who's already acclimated to living conditions just a small notch above cardboard boxes and catfood, so even living on $12K/year with a $30K/year administrative gig burns through that debt mighty fast. It's not all bad.
Some of my classmates have gotten mulitple offers but they are applying to bigger markets (i.e. NY and DC)
Why aren't you applying to the bigger markets?
Though being bigger means more total slots, they also attract enough top-tier hotshots to make it an overcompetitive lost cause not worth our time. Depends on tier & grades though of course.
I don't want to live in DC or NY. Though if I can't find a job after my third year I would probably consider moving.
Why would they ever be "threatening"? Do you mean just hounding you to apply and network more?
That and it is a honor code violation not to report offers at my school and since I don't have any offers to report they think that I'm just lazy and not reporting the offers.

True, but I think they have weathered the financial crash better than some of the bigger southern markets (Charlotte, Atlanta, etc) that I applied to.
How far along are you, flash?

In that case I'd highly recommend picking up a clinic or practicum while you still can. It goes without saying that both the practical experience on your resume and the opportunity to meet real players vastly improves your chances even if it's unpaid.

I'm definitely going to look at something more practical this summer. May be a clinic, like you said, or a internship with a judge. Last year I was a research assistant for a professor, which was fun and paid but didn't give me much legal experience.

What Darius said is exactly where I was going if you said 2L. Just make sure you do something to avoid a time gap on the resume. As a last ditch, take classes if you can. Also, are you in repayment on your loans already?!?
