EDIT: I think analyst at a big IB might be one of the worst jobs I've ever heard of, given the quality of people recruited for it. I think a lot of them end up being Excel jockeys for 4 years. I guess it's nice to collect a decent paycheque in your mid 20s, and their future is good if they can get into a top MBA, leading to an associate job at my age, but it seems like phd in academia is an easier road to travel, if they have the smarts for it (which I think most do, given the difficulty of selection process).
