While I'm sure my opinion of LinkedIn is completely biased by the fact that I still have a job, to me, all it does it is to inform me when one of my contacts has been laid off and is currently looking for work. And it seems the only ones that add me are those that are really going to have problems finding any type of work.

Yes, I should clarify: I'm self-employed and make my living by freelancing, in many cases working for companies that have laid off in-house resources. :vulture:
And I get as many referrals from Facebook as I do from LinkedIn.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Well the CE of my current job told me to my face that I got the job because I had a personality, and wasn't like all of the other candidates, who were too Apprentice for his liking. Don't know if you get this programme in the US, but I can't imagine you don't - something similar with Donald Trump springs to mind.

It's really nice out by Woodstock, Japher. Still outside the main suburban sprawl, straight NW of the city and not far from the Wisconsin border. It's still close enough to the city to access whatever you want, and because it's NW, O'Hare isn't too inconvenient. There are still farms and forests and stuff in the area. Very white, very low crime, last I checked. And yes, housing is definitely below market rate out there. You'd want to live close by, because the road system is not built out, and the area is definitely growing, so commuting can be tricky.
To answer your direct question: Besides Woodstock itself, Crystal Lake, McHenry, Lakemoor and Wauconda are probably your best bets. I know Lakemoor and Wauconda have lots of new subdivisions going up right now.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Awesome, thanks for the advice. As a Chemical Engineer it is a rather rare occurrence that you would want to work in the same area that you live. If Woodstock is nice than that would be ideal.
I "applied" by sending a message to the corporate recruiter through LinkedIN. I have actually had good response using this tactic. For the most part I try not to apply directly to a company through Indeed, Monster, and the likes, but will try to find someone I have some connection with, even if it is just a group at LinkedIN.
We'll see if he responds.
