  • My Boy is Allergic to Peanuts and Milk

He's 1. They figure out his back issue (tethered cord) and think that the problem may work itself out. He is having no development problems, but will receive another MRI in December to make sure he's moving along alright. He has some sort of belly button issue that they want to fix on an out patient operation type thing, but I guess it's rather routine.

The bigger news is that he's allergic to peanuts and milk. We had him tested because he's been having reactions to cheese, we suspected the peanuts but hadn't given any to him yet (suppose to be 2) so we were lucky there. No egg allergies, which is nice as he can now get the flu shot.

Anyway, what are some good fat sources for this guy? We used to give his sister Carnation Instant Breakfast at night to help her with her calorie in take and fat content, but not sure what to give the little guy. He's dropped in % despite eating everything in sight. Help.

Glad to hear that the major problems are working themselves out, Japher.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I wish the best for him and you.

Peanut allergies seem to be nasty.

Pretty sure you can have chocolate without milk or peanuts.

I have eaten 99% cocoa stuff before, although I do prefer the 60-92% stuff.

He may outgrow it... but I'm not getting his hopes up.

And actually, a lot of milk allergies aren't too bad. Although one of my cousins is very allergic and can't have any at all.

He's been drinking milk but depending on how much he gets the runs. Cheese, however, gives him hives.

OK, so much worse than nromal, but not at the deadly stage (so better than my cousin).

Yeah, hopefully he will outgrow it or at least to where it's only a minimal problem.

I'd read that peanut reactions were way up these days. I don't remember hearing why, though.
