            • It's absolutely amazing how disciplined the opposition is. Mousavi said that he's willing to martyr himself. The cycles of demonstrations and mournings, the model that the opposition appears to be using, toppled the Shah. But that happened because the army defected. If the opposition is going to win the civil war, they need the backing of some armed faction. It looks like the police has decided to side with the regime, but that presumably could change. The jury is still out on the army. The Revolutionary Guard would presumably be the last to defect.

The key point is really that there's elite dissent in each of these factions. Generals had to be rounded up by the government. The Mayor of Tehran is an Ahmedinejad opponent. So is the senior IRGC commander who ran in this election, Rezaee. And importantly, the clergy have been sidelined. This is a coup by Khamenei and the Revolutionary Guard. Iran is now a military dictatorship, rather than an Islamic Republic. Khamenei was never part of the clerical establishment; his "Ayatollah"ship was essentially dictated by Khomenei. Ahmedi is the first President who isn't a cleric. There are a lot of people in the political elite who are not happy, and Rafsanjani is reportedly hard at work organizing them.
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

Ach. Now my confusion is solved through fission. I understand. It is good that you did this to disguise the embrassment of sexuality comment on some secret thing.

                      • Nobody dies for freedom. Many, though, live in slavery. Maybe, though, some think a cause is worthwhile and they sacrifice for others? Maybe like a vegetarian chef making a steak.

It is easier to kill for your cause than to live for it.
