    It's going to get worse.

That's a douche article. The hardliner's in Iran are trying to paint the protesters as stooges of the west so Kagan wants western leaders to validate the mullah's claims? I mean really? I know he's just parroting a Republican talking point which is all over the right wing media right now but how stupid.

Plus, the State Department asked Twitter to delay site maintenance until the middle of the night, Iranian time, so that the protesters could keep at it. Twitter complied. Good to know America is playing its part...

Early report that Twitter has been blocked by Iran govt. OTOH, a rival challenger to Khomenei, a council cleric I believe, has called the election an affront to the people and "not the will of God". He also asked the army and RG to disobey orders to attack protesters, saying that they cannot hide from God behind orders from men.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

For another perspective, the Iranian gov't says:

"Our enemies and their media have hired some opportunist and mischievous elements and have misused the simple-mindedness of some people to cause unrest," the government said in a Thursday statement.

It further accused the Western foreign media of 'spreading lies and rumors' to create doubts over the health of Friday's presidential election.

Iran's European Union envoy criticized the Western countries for their "support for these trouble-makers and anarchists under the cover of supporting democracy and the voice of the Iranian people".

These statements are in line with the 'full-spectrum dominance' and 'regime-change' type activities that the CIA and related organizations have been engaged in around the world for decades. CIA has had covert ops ongoing in Iran since at least 2002.

Yes. CIA is responsible for all this crap.

I believe they have evidence of the protest leaders receiving several calls from Crawford Texas. I'm not sure what the significance of that is yet but I'm sure they will find out in time.

I expected the protests to die down. But it seems like they are going strong, at least today. Rally in central Tehran.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a finger or two in this but "all" would be beyond their competence.

This one was in the Chicago Tribune this morning. I got a laugh from it. But it probably shows how much this is really going to change things in my opinion.

Hopefully the CIA would have the technology to rerout or conceal their calls.
Though I wouldn't put anything beyond idiocy.

According to my calculations, the CIA has about an 80% success rate when it comes to regime change. Chavez won't be far behind - he can't duck assassination, kidnapping, and coup attempts forever.
