The ultimate, all-important question for Star Trek movie.
My girlfriend also really liked it. (and yes, I know same comment as above)
Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy. We've got both kinds
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.
More seriously, I watched Wrath of Khan and thought it was an okay movie. I watched Generations (the one with the Picard clone) and thought it was crap. Same with VI (?) where there was a young female Vulcan and part of the plot involved a Klingon getting assassinated in a frame plot. Same with IV where Uhura does a sand dune dance (and that's not me being racist).
I also watched Galaxy Quest, thought it was passably funny, but realized I didn't get probably 80% of the humor in it.
Based on this, should I take up my roommate's offer to go see the new ST movie, or will I just end up bored and resentful in the movie theater?

Go if you fancy seeing a good fun blockbuster.
Most of the other Star Trek Movies are crap.

It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

V was the sand dune dance. She was getting up there in age by that point. I'd still have done her though.
Well at least your opinion has some backing behind it now. And I'm happy I was able to make you waste a few hours of your life just to give me crap. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I liked it and don't give a rat's ass what you think about it, so here's to you never getting those few hours back.
Time wasn't wasted. Had it on in the background. Plus it was useful for research purposes...
And my comment about ST was I was suprised that you were fooled by the hype since you're so smart.
Except I did already say that I was going to see it no matter what anyway - even if the reviews were terrible. I expect you missed that part.
Besides, I actually said I enjoyed the action and IIRC gave it a creditable 5 or 6 out of 10 just because the CGI and action were able to compensate for a **** plot. So again you have misconstrued what I actually said to what you wanted me to say - I still enjoyed the film whilst simultaneously finding it ****...
I'll be seeing it with less expectations but still expect to enjoy it. I'll try to focus on the good things instead of picking on the scab of the bad things. It is obvious that our overall view of things is pretty different.
Yes, but we are talking about a different state, and a different type of flat. That quarry is clearly a hard stone quarry (e.g. granite) due to its appearance, in the film. Sorry, I'm no geologist, but you are extremely unlikely to get anything other than sedimentary rock at the very best on the generally flat and friable terrains that Iowa is best known for. Certainly not in the manner the film portrays.
Where's Oerdin when you need him?
This is what I said, prove me wrong. Should be easy for you, seeing as you know so much about Iowa...
