The ultimate, all-important question for Star Trek movie.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
I wondered that as I remembered that scene from the trailer, and then realised watching the movie that he was in Iowa - at which point I mentally screamed "Canyon WTF!?". Because of the trailer I was forewarned enough to take a careful look at the canyon walls, and it looks as though it's actually meant to be a quarry as the walls appear uniformly carved out. Or at least that's my rationalisation - though I doubt the geology of Iowa would actually support such a quarry industry - particularly on the flat bits which are most likely former floodplains. So this is still most likely unrealistic IMO and dumb.
It's a pretty dumb and unnecessary scene in a pretty dumb and unnecessary movie, basically...

Yet you went and saw it anyway. Not very bright.

But they have quarries in flat places. My family used to live in Naperville, IL. Flat farmland and brand new development as far as the eye can see, but still they had a big ol' quarry.

Says the hypocrite who says you can't pass judgement on something without having seen it first: e.g. whining to me like a stuck panda about my having to see the last Lost before passing judgement when I already know it's ****...
So, actually, a bunch of reviews, including ones I generally trust, said "Woo, it's great!", and the trailers looked great - so I went.
Seems the not very bright one out of us is the one who contradicts his own ****ty arguments as to what one should or should not decide to see. And that would be hypocritical whiny rah...
Hmm, so you admit you had to see the movie to say it sucked. Think about that for a second.

Irrelevant. Your argument that I was stupid for seeing Star Trek and finding out it was **** directly contradicts your other argument that I should see Lost because I can't tell if it's going to be **** unless I actually see it...
Keep swirling around, it just make you look more more silly. I was just saying that you can't pass judgement on something that you've haven't watched. You seem to be confused with the concept.
That you went and saw star trek is a totally different matter.

che and I grew up in Batavia, just a stone's throw from there. When were you living in Naperville?
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned
Well at least he watched it before he criticized it. And since he always so positive about things and people, I guess we shouldn't be surprised that he's making fun of it.
I haven't seen it yet but from everything I've seen and heard, I doubt it's a great movie but I think i'll be entertained.

I just flew out of Chicago yesterday, also a very flat city in a flat state, and they have huge quarries in the middle of Chicago neighborhoods.
