The ultimate, all-important question for Star Trek movie.
I'm not terribly familiar with the series, but there were a few things that I hadn't seen before and I wondered if they were new to this movie or already established.
Spoiler:
1. Spock and Uhura seem to have a few... moments... together. Was this foreshadowed in any earlier ST shows, or is it a new development for this movie alone?
2. Spock's mother is human - was Spock ever presented as only half-Vulcan in other sources?
3. Spock's mother doesn't make it - is this something new?
4. What actually happened with the Vulcans and why was it (sort of) sufficient to save only the main council? I'm thinking that saving a handful of Vulcans means that they've got the mind-melded knowledge of a larger number of Vulcans or somesuch.
5. Why do they call the movie just "Star Trek"? Is this really the first movie to be called that?

Spoiler:
1. Spock and Uhura have definitely never had "moments" before.
2. Spock has always been half-vulcan.
3. In the original timeline, she dies at a later point but not much is said about it.
4. That sounds good.
5. The first star trek movie was called, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." I'm guessing this one was just called Star Trek to signify it was a reboot and all.
1. TOTALLY new. But it pays homage to the Original Series where when Spock was forced to kiss her in an episode was the first white black kiss on network television and created a lot of contraversy.
2. Nope, always half vulcan.
3. Alternate universe, in the original she's around.
4. They were keepers of knowledge so everything isn't lost.
5. The original tv series was named STAR TREK so that's why it was used, they're going back to the original to start fresh (the first star trek movie was also called star trek the movie.

We seem to agree on the answers (motion picture/movie) , but alas you were a couple minutes faster.

That was Kirk not Spock.

They did a good job of making it a sit-back-enjoy type of flick. The plot wasn't actually nearly as bad as most, and they had good dialogue all round. The casting was especially good, with the sole exception of Bones, who had the voice and attitude down pat but seemed like he was a bit too... well... BIG to become the scrawny doc we've seen before. Young Spock especially is very well acted.
The parallel-universe concept seems a little unnecessary, but it's actually a stroke of franchising brilliance because it "resets" the universe plotwise, allowing a completely separate set of spinoffs to emerge with the new crew which won't jar too badly with the established canon.
A good movie.
George ****ing Lucas could take a page out of this book about how to make prequels.
It's the same universe, but a different timeline.
Subtle, but important difference.

Kirk is also known for "going back" after "going Black", which was quite a milestone in itself

Kirk was a regular rainbow coalition. He didn't care about color.

In the extreme NW of the state 2 miles from the South Dakota border where it's very hilly...
Again, I said somewhere flat. Which part of 'flat' don't you retards get!?
What I also don't understand is why after making my point absolutely ages ago, people are still lining up to be humiliated by me...?
Let's ****ing end this!
The quarry in question is Rock of Ages granite quarry in a part of VT where everything is named 'Mt This' and 'Mt That' - it's about as unflat as you can get...
I guessed from its appearance that it was granite - I was correct
I stated that it wasn't going to be anywhere flat, like in the movie - I was correct
So, the FACTS have proved me correct - which consequently makes all you lot wrong - as usual
Now that we have finally sorted all that lot out, we can move on: The movie is a good brainless actioner with a great twist - everything else is ****...
This year's survey offers fresh evidence that Northwest Iowa is home ot some of the state's richest farmland. Of the nine crop reporting districts, the 12 county-area in the extreme northwest tier reported the highest average value of $5,395 per acre, up 14.8% from the previous year. Included in this district are the counties of Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, and Cherokee. For the first time, three counties had average per-acre prices above $6,000, two of which are O'Brien and Sioux Counties.
Despite the economic downturn, the market remains "pretty darn strong." The worldwide demand for Iowa corn and soybeans is reaching phenomenal proportions.
We all know that corn farming is done on hills & mountains

I wondered that as I remembered that scene from the trailer, and then realised watching the movie that he was in Iowa - at which point I mentally screamed "Canyon WTF!?". Because of the trailer I was forewarned enough to take a careful look at the canyon walls, and it looks as though it's actually meant to be a quarry as the walls appear uniformly carved out. Or at least that's my rationalisation - though I doubt the geology of Iowa would actually support such a quarry industry - particularly on the flat bits which are most likely former floodplains. So this is still most likely unrealistic IMO and dumb.
It's a pretty dumb and unnecessary scene in a pretty dumb and unnecessary movie, basically...
So Drake, retarded reading and comprehension skills and now a retarded memory...
