Asher should NOT be a mod, FFS. Idunno about community issues (still using a PC too slow to play modern games), but I don't see much of a problem with the jumping, snarling and trolling supposedly observed. I don't recall any new posters showing up in the past few months except a lot of spambots. Less recently, we've had Heraclitus (stuck around), B etor (stuck around, though intermittently present), MattBowron (appears now and then to ask KH if "dark matter" might be the Antichrist), and AAHZ (stuck around, despite our most valiant attempts). Oh, but AAHZ was here before I was, so I guess he doesn't count. What valuable new blood have we driven away?

Part of that is because OT was split into three parts. Part of it is because some of our posters are going up, growing to college, and getting RL friends. Part of it is the level of rudeness here. Two of these things can be fixed.

Yup. Folding the Sports and Tech should be easy. But shutting down all the colleges is going to be quite the task.

"SOME" claim that the OTF drives away the On-Topic posters. Which is simply BS. I would think that the lack of content does that job well enough. Sure, some noob might enter the OTF and get swatted like a fly and leave.
But our on topic posters are really more helpful than their counterparts at CFC who look down their noses at newbees in the On Topic forums. Again, on topic should be driving the new blood... and it isn't. But they still want to blame the OT trolls for all the problems.

Any more, the "top 100" posters on the site hail almost exclusively from OT, which provides the least amount of relevant content (relevant to the site's purpose for being which, surprisingly, is not to feed the trolls).

Do I count among them?

I made Emperor, around 4k posts prior to the OT counting. While the majority of my posts are now off-topic, I hardly would say that I 'hail exclusively' from the OT.

The situation is the same for most of us who are in the top 100 posts.

The site traffic fell way behind CFC long before we lossened up the OTF modding. The real problem of this site is design, lack of support to the community, terrible uploading and downloading, and server problems. I guess it's easier for people to point at a single factor and rally around the flag so that they can ignore the real issues here.

Yep, those have been the main issues. It's always been easier to download mods, civ scenarios and core programs such as unlimited Civ2 from CivFanatics.

However, the quality of the Civ knowledge is better here. It's just harder to find it. The demo games, the sxn games, and the community is better here.

Sure, you can blame the trolls for chasing "a few" people away... but the site has done a pretty good job of that all on it's own... and far longer than the trolls. If you will remember, when Apolyton was number one way in the past... the trolls were running the OTF... and it didn't seem to hurt traffic then. Hell, I was brought in to calm them down... and we were an easy number one at that time. So, place the blame where it belongs.

Yep, as I said, Poly has a niche. You can't go wrong being who you are.

Instead of fixing that we spent our time arguing whether to ban ASHER. Great priorities.
I guess I got tired of being constantly blamed for the downward trend of this site.
Fortunately it's not my concern anymore even though I've always wished and will continue to hope for Poly's continued existence and success. The new owners have their work cut out for them and I wish them luck.

It would be easier to just ban the people who waste time arguing about whether to ban me.
