Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..
Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

Adopt a modern CMS system and use the hell out of it. Hire new content editors.
Set yourself some user scenarios to help you think through what key information needs to be on the home page/every page.
eg.
- I'm a new Colonization player I want to find a bunch of stats about all the units. I google and find Apolyton and CFC. Which one do I get the information from and why?
- I'm an experienced CivIV player who's coming back to it after a break and want to find out some interesting strategies.
- I'm a CivIV modder who regularly uses Apolyton and CFC, and there was a really useful discussion about AI editing that got converted into an article somewhere... now where was it...?
Throw everything from the current site away in terms of design it has virtually no redeeming features. Link to archive stuff where required and migrate any useful articles to the new CMS.
Oh and another bugbear of mine. Images like this:

Stick with a simple design, like what everyone is used to. CFC isn't the prettiest site and it's all in vbDupral, but it's incredibly functional. Easy to navigate and find what you want. Their left side navigators mean I can get to pretty much any of their major informational articles I want with one click from their home page.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

Why are you playing CIV3 ? CIV BtS is much much better. We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

I was one of the most active posters in the CivIII and CIV on-topic forums (the general and strategy forums, anyway) when they were active.
I do check the CIV general forum occasionally and post when there is a discussion going on, but that is very rare now. It's basically dead. If it had more activity - say, newbies asking questions - I'd be there, answering them.

Good strategy guides and discussions and access to them is key for me - and what I most want to read on a Civ forum. Vels strat threads were in this spirit, but there were many other good discussions and strats posted. CFC has seperate forums for strat articles and strat tips - this is a good division and helps to keep the meaty, detailed analysis accessible and not diluted by lots of quick-fire threads. Also on CFC, they have collections of articles, plus the links to the discussion threads.
If possible, some kind of 'Strategy Tsar' whose role it is to closely observe, collate and organise this kind of contribution would be good.

We could start a few on topic threads sure to get comment: "best MBT", "best assault rifle", etc.We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Is the OT about to go bonkers?Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

In all the years I've posted here this is the first up front discussion about the site that includes mods...or x-mods. It was always behind the scenes, if it existed at all. I wonder why that is.Long time member @ Apolyton
