You'll note rah changed 'poly' to 'civ' so he's correct IMO. But you may be correct about our 'golden age' being the civ3 years. Even then I would go to CFC for mods and downloads tho... their layout made it much easier to find what I was looking for.

I'd like to call bull****, but take what I'm about to post with a pinch of salt, I wasn't around when civ 2 was the latest release. Apolyton was the website that had the most effect on the designing of CIV, moreso than the other sites spread around, becuase of A. Alex, Trip, nye, Dominae (I'd add Aeson but he was also prolific at CFC) were all mostly active over here in various guises. Friedreich, the MP lead also originated here IIRC, so it's not like we weren't a leading site back then.

If you look at the number of posts Civ 3 was a huge part of the site. Look at the archives:

C3 general: 225765
Strategy: 56321
Demogames (total): 359254
Total: 641340 posts

And that's just the archives.

By comparison civ 2 only has 173732 posts, less than a third that of civ 3. There are only 85827 posts in the open forums as well, compared to the 109000 in the civ 3 forum. CIV only has 168213 posts in it's non-MP fora in it's entire history.

If anything civ 3 was the golden age of this site, and your think otherwise because you have an axe to grind. I don't think any of the admins here were ever active in the civ 3 sections, although I remember snoopy in his (our) first PBEM game here.

You really ought to consider that what made this place great in those days was not the admins, or anything driven by the site owners, but that the regular posters got their hands dirty and made something useful, from tournament games to strat articles, and unfortunately very few of them are still around, or are to disillusioned to do anything.

I seem to recall a lot of posts were lost in the transition from UBB to vBulletin.
