So many facets to talk about but mostly I'm just appalled that the administration didn't come clean on this until they pretty much had to. If it hadn't been for Dale's laughable Bond villain PM no one would have known. I'm sorry to say (as discussed more fully in the A/C thread) I don't think this lack of judgement is an isolated issue.

And an extra 'it's a shame' from me. I've found Dale quite irritating in the past (his defences of Firaxis around the BtS patch shenanigans for instance) but his work on the Civ4 mod is exemplary and input from people like him is crucial to sustaining the TBS community. Asher (as so often) has been out of line in his attacks on Dale, with no punishment because he's become adept at not quite crossing the line. If only Dale had Asher's guile he probably could have done what he did and came out of it still in sight of the moral high ground.

But as it is, with that PM (urgh), a permaban is the only outcome. One more active member of the civ community that will now only post at CFC.

I really do want to help them out here in fixing their tech problems. I do understand why they are hesitant given our history, but I can work past it if they can.

I'd even be willing to sign a legal liability waiver, where I agree to pay Dan X amount of money if I ****ed something up intentionally. Could even have a Poly lawyer look it over if they wanted.

I've no intention of ****ing the site up, I just want to fix the damned problems as they drive me crazy.

I am on record as supporting this. Yes, the history is the only thing that kept it from being a slam dunk.
Technically Asher should be banned for posting the PM. He may be, but this is a unique circumstance and may require a different response.

Also for the record I supported not coming clean on the 400 posts for a few reasons.

One After your PM to me you didn't think it was a big deal and didn't feel that you had been wronged.

Two. you do have a way of getting under peoples skins. You're quite good at it. So while there is no excuse for what Dale did, you get a tiny bit of the responsibility for it. He was stripped of all his access and responsibilities for the site and Banned while you continued to post.
So I thought it was best not to rip off the scab. I stand by my decision. I think others thought along the same lines but I won't do the mind read act.

Others may find fault in that decision but what the heck. I don't think any of the possible outcomes here would satisfy everyone.

I do chuckle at a lot of the complaints about unfair treatment. A lot of discussions occur to try to keep it fair, (in areas that even GT didn't have access to, so while I really like GT, he doesn't always know what he's talking about) Since they are discussions among a group of people, we don't always all agree and most importantly we don't always get it right in everyone's opinion (which is impossible)

BUT I can honestly say that getting it right is always the goal despite how illusive it can sometimes be. Especially when specific posters have an ax to grind. (or if I do)

So I challange anybody that has had to make as many decisions as DAN has to get them all perfect to everyone's satisfaction. It would be a difficult challange. (even for asher )

For the last year we've been quite open about peoples opinions and complaints. These types of threads have not been deleted and have actually been encouraged. (note stickey thread in this forum)
So please take this all into consideration before you condemn actions on the part of the administration.
We do ask that people be respectful when they give us their best shot.
This is still a community.
