I GUESS, the sword is meant to be Excalibur and it is given from some ´pond goddess´ to, well, King Arthur, i think - hence how it´s behind held. Ever saw the movie, named after the sword?

No, but I've read the books.

Your 'pond goddess' is the Lady in/of the Lake, who is a major player in Arthurian legend. All right, she appears more than you'd expect, but she's no Lancelot. My joke was that the statue is clearly not in a lake, and that she's holding the sword by the blade. Even if you're not familiar with Excalibur (the name means "cut steel"), then holding a sword like that is not overly smart.

I think the gesture only conveys what it wants to say, when it is being held this way, partly BECAUSE it hurts to hold a sword this way.

Yeah, I think she's some mythical figure, so for her maybe the sword doesn't cut?

How hard is that to get? It cuts her, if it is not taken! Preferably by the person destined to take it. I hate Exupery so i say: A rose is more than just a rose (sometimes at least).

EDIT: Winston, where did you get that pic from? I want it back! God damn it! I yelled at the guy to wait there and told my mum to row faster, but when we finally got ashore, the guy ran away and now this!

Okay, it was just a throwaway one-liner so let's not take the "holding a sword" debate too far!

Although I'm sure Ali has more than a few jokes somehow related....
