if you look at both places he written the sum, it is clear it's a cursive small-letter i.

there's no logic in it being e^2pi
- there's nothing special about that number
- the inside joke is about the 0.002 dollar issue, so the sum remaining 0.002 is more logical than the sum being a weird number above 500$.

e^i*pi is exactly -1.
the sum from 1 to infinity of 1/(2^x) is exactly 1

why would he want to make a check to VERIZON for 0.002 dollars?
